Commercial kitchen floor coatings
A kitchen floor has to be safe underfoot when it is wet with oil, survive a hot washdown every night, and pass inspection. Quarry tile does two of the three until the grout goes. We install seamless systems overnight, between services.
It is almost never the tile. It is the grout.
Quarry tile in a commercial kitchen fails at the joints: grout erodes under hot water and degreaser, the bed beneath it stays wet, and tiles start to lift and rock. What follows is a floor that cannot be cleaned properly, a trip hazard at every loose tile, and a health inspection finding. A seamless urethane cement floor has no joints to erode, coves up the wall so there is no edge to trap grease, and falls to drain. It also goes down overnight.
Where we are the right call
- Cook lines, prep areas and dish pits with hot washdown and grease
- Failed quarry tile that needs removing rather than patching again
- Walk-in coolers and freezers
- Kitchens re-fitting ahead of an inspection or a change of operator
- Any kitchen that has to be trading again the next service
Where we will tell you something else
- Dining rooms and front of house, where this is the wrong material entirely
- Kitchens where the drainage or the fall needs rebuilding first
- Sound tile that only needs regrouting — we will tell you that
- Sites with no realistic overnight window and no closed day
What gets installed, and what it is rated for.
| Typical system | Urethane cement with integral coved base, sealed to a slip-graded finish |
|---|---|
| Build thickness | 1/4″ over the cook line and dish pit; lighter in dry prep |
| Surface preparation | Existing tile and bed removed to sound concrete, then shot blasted to CSP 4–6 |
| Slip resistance | Aggregate graded by station — heaviest at the fryer and dish pit, lighter in dry prep |
| Chemical resistance | Animal fats and cooking oils, degreaser, sanitiser, vinegar and citrus acids |
| Compliance | Seamless, cleanable and coved, specified to support health inspection requirements |
| Return to service | Foot traffic 8–12 hrs · full washdown 48–72 hrs |
| Warranty | Written workmanship warranty, terms by system |
How we keep you running while we work.
Every commercial proposal we issue includes a phasing plan and the hours each zone is out of service. If we cannot make the window work, we will tell you at the walk-through rather than halfway through the install.
Walk it after service
We look at the floor when the kitchen is running, not when it is empty — that is when you can see where the water goes.
